Inserting points in an existing line/arrow in calc

Using LibreOffice 25.8.1.1 on Win11 home edition.

When I make a line or arrow with the “Insert Line” tool or the “Lines and Arrows” tool, I get a line without any corners in it. I could make a line with one or more corners by using the “Curves and Polygons” tool, too. But I can’t seem to change the number of corners in a line afterward. All I seem to be able to do is draw a new line, painstakingly apply the styling of the old line to it one property at a time, reposition it to match the position of the old line, and then delete the old line.

This is very destructive to my workflow when I’m using line shapes in my spreadsheets since it often means spending upwards of 30 seconds just to add or remove a point if I’ve made a mistake or need to edit it after the fact. Is there a way (e.g. with Point Edit Mode) to add new points to a line without having to redo all my previous work?

In your definition, are corners the same as points?
Does there have to be a specific number of points?
What exactly is the goal?
Describe the goal as precisely as possible, not the path.

Looks like Bug 36943 - Clicking ‘Edit Points’ button in Calc doesnt show ‘Edit Points’ toolbar

@Hrbrgr
I’m using “points” and “corners” the way Libreoffice does. Points are any vertices on a shape, and they come in two types, corners and caps. Every “line” shape has at least two points which act as caps, but it only gains a corner by inserting a third.

The goal is just to change the number of points on a line, as I’ve already said. There does not need to be a specific number of points, the goal is to be able to alter the number of points at any time.

And with all due respect, while I’m happy to rephrase my problem, sticking to only describing the goal is not helpful. That’s a very easy way to get off-topic suggestions telling me things that I’ve already tried (such as clicking Point Edit Mode) or that aren’t relevant for the problem I’m having (such as just remaking the line, which is exactly what I’m trying to avoid).

@EarnestAl That looks like it’s exactly the issue that I’m running into. I figured that there must be some kind of toolbar for it, but since I couldn’t get anything to show up I thought I was just doing something wrong. I’ll check out the thread there to see if anyone has a solution.

Edit: …I’ve read through the thread there and I’ve come up with a slightly less painful workaround for now; by pasting the line into e.g. Writer I can edit it there and then paste it back. Since there doesn’t currently appear to be a better way to do this in Calc until the bug is fixed, I’ll mark your response as the answer.

I think your work around is the best way forward until the bug is fixed but I would suggest using Draw to edit the line as it has a few more tools.
