hi there
just a quick comment
I love Libreoffice. the only thing is how the interface/user interface looks like. I find it larger and less compact that MSoffice. It would be so great for usability and everything (especially on 13 inches screens) to have it more similar (not same but at least an option to select in preferences to make it much more compact. Zooming is not excatly fixing it. There a lot of tables we use and they fit and present perfectly under office and same document, done from step 1 in libreoffice does not present itself as compact (same fonts etc) . Is there a setting I am missing or any upgrade extra options you can add? graphic design etc?
Thank you!
What exactly are you talking about? Menu and toolbars? or document contents? Zoom ratio has no effect on the menu and tool bars, only on documents contents where “There a lot of tables we use” makes sense.
exactly, not talking about menus
the content… the way the content/spreadsheet is dispalyed etc. I find it much less practical/efficient that excel. It would be great if that “graphic” side could be improved or having a easy to select option for a standard view or compact/essential view.
In Writer, you can hide the side pane and then reduce window size to just the contents area. Document contents is under your control, mainly with styles. But this is user choice, there is no agreed rule about the way a document should look like (otherwise it is the death of artistic creation).
In Calc, you can adjust column width and row height. Once again, styles may offer a convenient way to control cell display. And you can also hide the sidepane to reclaim screen estate.
Sure those are artistic details, but not much about art in a spreadsheet right. What I am saying, and it’s not a critic but a feedback on my use and the use of lot of people and am assisting and making them stopping and reluctant to the idea of changing from excel, is that the way libreoffice (but I believe also openoffice etc , maybe onlyoffice gets closer to this) is presented as tables/cells etc is less seamless/streamlined/efficient than excel… all we want is to make opensource solution used more and more, but we should also make them satisfying the needs of who uses them.
There are some settings for sure to be changed individually and that help or compensate, but how many have the time to understand and play around with them? I think a simple options like they do now on some software/email etc to have different level of compactness/streamlined interface/process/tables/cells/fonts etc would make it easier and smoohtless for who tries to change and is not a developer/IT/office tools expert etc.
You have accurately captured and defined the problem.
There is a discrepancy between a complex writing program with many design options and the desire for very simple operation.
Since you are here on a website where users help other users, you can therefore only expect the helping user side to show the available possibilities.
If you have good ideas on how to improve the issue, you can submit suggestions for improvement on Bugzilla or consider participating in the User Experience team.
as far as I know yes
Did you also try View - Full screen?
The fullscreen option is not a separate entry in the overview @Hrbrgr linked to. It is just mentioned as an aside.
