In the tab ‘format’ there is ‘flip’ but it is always greyed out.
I have produced rows and columns of info that I now would like to rotate through 180 degrees, i.e. top left to bottom right and bottom right to top left.
I can see ‘format/flip’ would allow me to do it one row or column at a time but it is always greyed out no matter what I do. Is it possible to use this to save me re-entering every cell content again?
The only standard function doing something like flipping is TRANSPOPSE(). If you think of an array with quadratic cells for the elements it uses the main diagonal (TopLeft to BottomRight) as the axis.
Additional ways of flipping or rearranging arrays can easily be provided as UDFs (UserDefinedFunction), but relying on UserCode comes with disadvantages.
Personally I use sometimes a module of a special library which is contained and demonstrated in the attached example.

Rotate or Flip → … shape or image

you mean : Rotating Text ?
if not, an (.odt) example of data, and expected transformation ?
Append another column with incrementing numbers
(Write 1 in the first row andvdragg down to the end).
Now mark your table or the column/area you need and select data->Sort.
Sort by the new column descending.
If you don’t like the result you can just undo the sort (ctrl-z) or sort the same area by the new column ascending
PS:
Yes, for the method described above.
No for your “flip”, as it seem to be a graphic method to be applied on images/shapes. Therefore you have always seen it gray, if you selected a column of data.
Thanks Wanderer, that almost works. It works with rows of more than 10 rows but with columns ( I have 13) it numbers a descending sort 1,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,13,12,11,10. ? So I now have them the right way ‘up’ but not along.
Then your column was set to contain text/strings. They are sorted by first character.
Either set as number before input, or use numbers of same length, like 01, 02, …10, 11… 99
Your added numbering column has been formatted as text, see Value Highlighting on how to see text, numbers and formulas.
You could
- Select the column and click Format > Cells > Numbers and under Category select Number, under Format select General. OK.
- With the column still selected, click Data > Text to Columns. Make sure the separator option is Tab or not anything inside the cells. OK
- Sort again
(See Frequently asked questions - Calc - The Document Foundation Wiki )
Or
- Click in the sort column and then click Data > Sort
- In the dialogue, select the Options tab and tick the box Enable natural sort. OK
I have solved it, in a way, I did a third action and cut/pasted the 10,11,12,13 and moved the 9 to 2 then repasted the 10 to 13 in the beginning, it now looks right. Thank you for the advice and solution Wanderer.
I put my last post in after your entries.
I have looked at it again and the data I have is text because I am saving positions of shift register numbers and then positions in the shift register (I am trying to get a large number of leds to light on a board I have stolen from a server unit that contains 64 leds and 14 shift registers) each cell contains two numbers separated with a slash i.e. 14/6 or 5/3 for 14th register 6th box in it so if I called them numbers they would show as fractions.
The row of numbers I am using to sort them are formatted as numbers but if I just highlight the lot and go to data/sort and fill the boxes to sort columns they now sort as 10,1,11,12,13,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 ?
I suppose I could just rename everything with a different format like 14-6 but the reason I have asked here is more to find out generally how to flip rows and columns.
You could change the numbering Row to number
Or
you could use my second suggestion, Enable natural sort.
BTW Please don’t use Suggest a solution for a comment, please click the comment bubble
see my earlier post
I enabled natural sort and it made no difference,
