Is there a Character styles panel

I have created a new character style inherited from another. The side panel Styles and Formatting shows this. When I put the cursor within the wording in the text the Styles panel in the toolbar above still shows the style for the rest of the para in which the character style resides. Is this right? Perhaps there is a Char Styles box I can configure so I can see w/o having the side panel open.

The toolbar above (Formatting) shows the Paragraph Style (not the Character Style). I don’t see Character Style button for the toolbars.

I’m hoping I can configure one somehow.

Later edit. Best I have found is a ‘T’ icon which opens the right panel.
