When I open a nre presentation I want it to open in ‘letter’ format

yes - there is a way:
- Open a new Impress document
Right click the (only) slide -> Properties -> Tab: Slide- Select Format
Letter - Set option Orientation to
[o] Portrait - Click
OK File -> Templates -> Save as Template...- Provide a Template Name (e.g.
MyImpressDefault) - Select a Template Category (e.g.
MyTemplates) -
Important Set option
[x] Set as default template - Click button
Save - Close the document (no Save required)
- Open a new Impress document and check your setting.
