I am entering bibliographic references as number, “[#]”. For each entry I change the style manually. Is there any way to set the bibliographic entry style to make the entries a superscript?
I just noticed that when I change the appearance of an entry to a subscript, this change is reflected in the Bibliographic reference in the Bibliographic index. That is, changing to a subscript effects both the entry and the reference. Is there any way to separate this so that the entry is a subscript but the reference (in the bibliographic) table is not?
Unfortunately, there is no default/built-in way of doing that because Writer does not “flag” the entries with a specific character style.
However you can do it.
- Create a dedicated character style (e.g. name it Bibliography Entry) with the desired properties
- Every time you insert a bibliography entry, select it and style it with your dedicated character style.
You can also post-process an existing document but you must manually look for the entries. They are also listed as bibliography entry in the Navigator Fields section. Entries are listed in document order, so you also need to track them manually. Double-click on an entry name to select it.
I just noticed that the manual style changes are carried to both the reference and the entry. Will your suggested fix separate allow only the entries to have the given change but not the reference (in the Bibliographic index)?
Entry and index are independent from each other. If changing entry formatting forwards to index, you messed up something. Attach a 1-page sample for diagnostic.
I have done what you suggested and it seemed to work, i.e., entry and index formats are different and entry formats are subscripted. I am sure my misunderstandings are only tolerated, but thanks.
