Large Document Images Disappear

I am using the latest LO on Windows 10 64bit Fall Creators Edition version 1709. I’ve been working on a document for months while I did training. I’ve been taking screenshots and copying them to this .odt document after editing them in Paint or Paint.net. Had no issues until on Sunday I opened the file and all the images were gone! Anyone know why this would happen? Is it a known issue/bug?

What kind of images are they? (filetype)

They are PNG. I’m taking a screenshot of my training and pasting this into Paint.net (OSS Photoshop clone) and then pasting the selected area of the screenshot directly into LibreOffice. Now instead of saving the image it shows as a broken link to an image (like a browser might show). I’d upload a screenshot but the site won’t let me yet (too low karma)

This appears to be a bug.
There are a number of similar posts here, and a number of bugs filed about the same issue.

Ahh, I see. Do you know if there are any tools that could recover a document that has suffered the fate of ‘losing’ its images?
