LibraOffice 7.2.6.2: how to get pics to display in .xlsx spreadsheet?

Hi. I’ve seen other similar questions, and answers which didn’t address this issue for newer versions of LibreOffice which don’t have the same menu configuration. Would someone be willing to give me a bit of assistance resolving this?

Much appreciated.

Why do you save in XLSX format?

The native format for LibreOffice is ODS in Calc.

Because that’s the file type I imported. Libra can work with a variety of file types such as .xlsx, and I wanted to give potential helpers as much information as possible. Do you have a fix for this issue—the failure of LibraOffice to display/load images within a document?

Just like any other application, LibreOffice can not really work with foreign file formats. It can import foreign file formats to a certain extend and it can export foreign file formats to a certain extend. This way you can re-use foreign file formats, work with them in the application’s native format and – if absolutely inevitable for some technical reason – you can export your work from native file format to some foreign file format. Same as with MS Excel or any other application, media editor, desktop publisher, image manipulation program producing native file formats. You can import jpeg, mp4, doc, xls or whatever, save in native file format, edit the stuff with all availlable application features and send out the result as jpeg, mp4, pdf.
Anyway. Let’s try some alternative approach:
Create a new directory.
Copy some of your pictures into that directory.
Download the attached database document to the same directory.
Open the document and the contained input form “New Event”.
Enter or paste some description text, double click the pickture box and add one of your pictures in the same directory.
Click [OK] and add the next one and the next.
Open the other form “Existing Data”, navigate through the existing records and edit them.
In the main database window go to the reports section and open the report.

DID I forget to upload the database? Yes, I did. Writing the description took me more time than working out that document.

This is a spreadsheet for inventory management. We’re talking hundreds, potentially thousands, of thumbnail pics. They display fine in LibraOffice on my windows machine, just not my iMac. It’s not the document type that’s causing the issue, but the OS. So there’s got to be a simpler solution.

Nice idea, so you used the tag “writer” instead of Calc, did not mention your OS, and asked where a function you didn’t tell about is located in newer versions of LO…
I’d expect something like “I found at link a solution to use menu>sub menu… but I can’t find it on LO Version / MacOS xyz”
And I don’t know: You don’t see any pictures in this file ? All pictures are in the file? Linked? Only this file or no pictures in any file ? (Question of global config or file config). For external files: path and filenames are ok? Absolute or relative path?

A spreadsheet is not the adequate tool for this kind of job. If the word management is really important, have a try with some DB application. You should find off-the-shelf utilities, even as FOSS.
