Libre Base still cannot find the JRE

I’m running windows 7 64bit.
Version: 7.6.4.1 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: e19e193f88cd6c0525a17fb7a176ed8e6a3e2aa1
CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 6.1 Service Pack 1 Build 7601; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win

I’ve uninstalled Java version 7. installed, uninstalled, reinstalled Java JRE 8.1
And still LibreOffice cannot find the JRE.
I’ve made sure that I have the 64 bit Java to match the 64 bit LO.
But atfer 5 hours, two reboots, LibreOffice still cannot find the JRE.

Is there some magical incantation to summon the JRE that isn’t covered in the “Help”?

Do I need to install java before running Base?
