Libre Office 26.2 does not open after recent install

I’m a long time use of Libre Office.
2 April 2026, downloaded and installed LibreOffice_26.2.2_Win_x86-64.msi
Double clicking on the Desktop icon does not open the software.
What can I do to open it?
Please.

Thank you for your reply.
I see you refer to the 25.2.1 install.
Would this be exactly the same procedure for the 26.2.2 version, please?

There has been no change to my position in the last 10 days.
LibreOffice 26.2.2 does not open.

Thank you LeroyG for your response. I followed it up with a question to which you did not reply. It is not clear to me what you are suggesting in your post, would work for the LibreOffice 26.2.2, or why. That is the reason I have not taken the action you suggest.

Perhaps the community’s silence indicates that what is suggested is understood to be OK ?
But because I wonder, my confidence is low to try those steps.

Is there a clearer way of showing what I should do to enable the installed version:
LibreOffice_26.2.2_Win_x86-64.msi
opens ?

Thank you.

In principle, yes.
But as the linked stuff was actually for you “Wynn1”, you may find the suggested .old occupied, as you did this also last year. May I suggest to use .old202604
.
The principles are also in the wiki.
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile

Check also the settings of use skia and force skia for all…
(Skia is mandatory now fow Windows.)

And perhaps it indicates we noted this instructions helped “Wynn1” last year. So the question is: Why on earth

?

Maybe. But the main problenm is: Nobody knows, why your system requires some extra steps, and how much you understand.
In the .msi is only the data to be installed. It is not called afterwards to run the software. (Keep it anyway, it is used for uninstall and perhaps updates.)

Can you open it in safe mode? Click Start menu and scroll down to LibreOffice - LibreOffice 26.2 (Safe mode).
.
If you get to the safe mode dialogue then follow steps in Version 25.2.03 will not work on my Win 10 Home. - #4 by EarnestAl
.
If it won’t open in safe mode, try reinstalling LibreOffice.
Is your anti virus blocking? Add LibreOffice (soffice.bin) to its Allowed list

Thank you EarnestAl and Wanderer for your comments and suggestions.

I’ve been delayed in attending to this.

What I have done today:

  1. Win Windows Explorer Renamed the LibreOffice folder to an OLD name

  2. Tried to open LibreOffice, which did not happen.

NB I notice though, that in Windows Explorer a new “LibreOffice” folder exists.

  1. Used Start > Libre Office (Safe Mode)
to try and open Libre Office. Nothing happened

  2. Used Start > Libre Office (Safe Mode) and discovered a secondary menu, and one of the options is “Run as administrator”
Windows dialog box appeared “Do you want to make changes to your device?”
    I chose “Yes”
    Nothing happened.

Any thoughts?

What antivirus do you use? Malwarebytes seems to be prone to blocking LibreOffice from opening. Add LibreOffice (soffice.bin) to the allowed list of something similar

I’ve been away.

I use the free version of Bitdefender. (NB Disabled the pre-installed version of Macafee.)

Try following the instructions here, https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/2393/

Ah. Thank you EarnestAl,
I followed the instructions as far as Step 5 : “Now enter the path of the process name (.EXE file) you want to exclude in the corresponding field.”

I don’t know which .exe file is appropriate to choose.
Using Explorer to look at the folders and files, including “search” reveals several .exe files.
I hesitate to try each.
Any guidance on how to identify the correct .exe file please? Many thanks.

I don’t have Bitdefender but you need to add soffice.bin . From the page for Microsoft antivirus, (Defender Controlled folder access exception for LibreOffice - The Document Foundation Wiki)

Note that initially, soffice.bin will not be shown in file chooser dialog, because only COM and EXE programs are shown in the list. You may need to enter . to the File Name box and press Enter to make the dialog display all files, then select soffice.bin; or just type the name directly when in C:\Program Files\LibreOffice\program.

Sorry to report that on Step 1, Opening Windows Security app to protect additional folders, and
selecting Step 2, Virus and Threat protection,
I am not able to move on to Step 3, scroll down to Ransomeware protection as there is nothing beyond Step 2, above, to scroll down to !
So I can’t take Steps 3, 4, 5, or 6

Thoughts?

Don’t use the steps for windows security, you aren’t using it. Use the path to add soffice.bin to your anti virus.

But have you activated the tab settings?

Thank you EarnestAl,

In Bitdefender I’ve entered the following into the Exceptions Options field under the settings tab:
C:\ProgramFiles\LibreOffice\program\soffice.bin
and
soffice.bin

Neither has had any effect.
LibreOffice continues to not open.
Thoughts? W
