Libre Office Base - Design Mode

Hi LO,

I am using Base to make simple data bases. I noticed that I could not access design mode for forms once the form was saved. Reading on line I came across one suggestion that a solution may be to open the application in safe mode. This worked but now I was in safe mode. I quit the application again and opened it again. Design Mode was back on in normal mode. But a day later, the same problem and come back. It would be nice if I didn’t have to reopen in safe mode everytime I wanted to use the data base. Any ideas?

Thanks Robert. I did that. Unfortunately ‘Design Mode’ in the form menu is sometimes greyed out. Right now, it’s not. But next time it happens, I’ll try your trick.

A form document is just an ordinary Writer document with extras. It can be opened in 2 ways:

  1. Open for data entry where you can not modify the form document. The Writer document is opened in read-only mode. Form design and many other edit features are inaccessible. The embedded input forms are fully functional. What you enter into the form controls is stored in the database. This is the “normal” way to open a form for everyday usage when the form design is finished.
  2. Open the form document for editing where you can modify the form document, its forms and form controls. Database data are not loaded. You may also add text content and everything that Writer has to offer. In order to test your form, you can switch between form design mode and data entry mode. Once your form is fully functional, you rarely open the form for editing.
