Isuue with LibreOffice Calc
Latest version if Libre Office installed and after each reboot when trying to open a .ods file Libre Office Calc becomes unresponsive for 2-3 minutes . After that it all works fine .
Did a lot of testing and it looks like there’s a weird interraction between Libre Office and the Print spooler service .
With the print spooler off the unresponsiveness is not present . Tried different printers as default, Bullzip, Microsoft to file, etc., nothing worked .
LibreOffice looks to default printer for print details. If the printer is off line it can wait for a minute or so waiting for a response or time out from Windows.
If you don’t want your printer on all the time, there are two options
- Install the printer manufacturer’s printer driver, they can normally handle requests for details without waking the printer. Windows generic printer driver is not so clever.
- Set a print to file printer driver, such as Microsoft Print to PDF, as the default printer. It is always on so they’re won’t be a delay. If an existing spreadsheet is set to use a particular printer, there might be a delay while it searches for that printer.
The printer only works with the Sharp driver specific for the model .
The default printer was Bullzip pdf but I also "Tried different printers as default, Bullzip, Microsoft to file, etc., nothing worked " .
The only thing that works so far is to have the service print spool off . That is a worse solution than uninstalling LibreOffice . And if anyone wonders, yes, I did try to repair and even uninstall/reinstall Libre. Not working .
Same issue with the portable version too . It doesn’t do anything like that with .xls/.xlsx files, they seem to work just fine without the unresponsive stage for minutes after every reboot .
In Tools > Options > Load/Save > General try toggling the setting for Load printer settings with the document, see help from that dialogue, General
Unfortunately
doesn’t change the issue . I had that suggestion from ChatGPT but no improvement whatsoever .
