Libre Office is locking all my files on two drives, but I can open, save and edit them to a third drive

I apologize if I am asking this incorrectly on this forum. I am here for the first time.

Libre Office tells me my files are locked by another user on my C-drive and D-drive (I am the ONLY user) .
I can open a copy and save any locked file to my G-drive and all is well. But how can I unlock all of the files on my C & D drive and return to normal?

I have rebooted the computer. I have tried searching for the “locked” files, but I am probably not doing that correctly.

Thank you for any help you may be able to offer.

I assume you are on Windows. You will need to add soffice.bin (C:\Program Files\LibreOffice\program\soffice.bin) to the Allowed List in your anti virus program (Avg? Avast?). The file soffice.bin might not be shown in file chooser dialogue of the anti virus, just type the name directly when in C:\Program Files\LibreOffice\program\.

You may be the only person who uses the computer, but there are always more accounts for admin, guest, trusted installer etc.

Security systems often block access to files. So this may be the cause. Check your settings on App and folder protection. Maybe “folder protection” is simply not activated for your g-drive. (I assume letter G:\ not a google-drive in the cloud…

The problem with your quote is: You seem to be the admin, who is to ask for the configured security settings.

I assume you are having this issue with Writer and Calc? There are three levels at which file-locking activity can be engaged: operating system, application, and record (as with databases). Reviewing the LibreOffice documentation, it appears that Writer and Calc have collaboration tools where you can manually engage locking protocols. My guess, however, as a single user, there is no collaboration going on here and even if these protocols were engaged, I doubt they would remain in permanent lock. So that narrows down to the operating system.

I would suggest closing all LibreOffice activity, and attempt to open the file in question using an alternative application, such as WordPad. If it complains, it is likely an O/S level lock of some sort. If it works, close the file and attempt to reopen it in LibreOffice.

Another tell-tale sign of a problem is a lingering lock file from a previous operation. For example,
~lock.Linux Daily Operations Guide.docx#

These lock files will reside in the same folder as the document you are attempting to open. MS Word has issues with this from time-to-time as well. Suggest you back this file up and then delete it, then attempt to reopen the document in question.
