Since I installed Microsoft Office, Libre Writer no longer appears on my Right-Click menu. Is there a way to add this back to my Right-click menu? I’m using Win 10.

Posting twice results in confusion.
Thanks for deleting the duplicate
The question has nothing to do with LibreOffice. It is about your operating system / graphic environment. Read the respective manual.
@gabix: yes and no
Yes because it is formally an OS matter.
No because non-techie users must be warned against M$ continuous efforts to sweep away all non M$ applications a user may have installed on its computer. All the more when auto update is enabled; user no longer controls the computer state and may wonder why, from one minute to the next, LO is no longer invoked.
The obvious way is to right click on a file, say .docx, select Open With... > Choose Another App > More Apps𝄻
, scroll down to the bottom and select “Look for another app on this PC…”, navigate to Writer (or other program). On my PC, Writer is at “C:\Program Files\LibreOffice\program\swriter.exe”
You need to remember this as occasionally Windows Updates remove defaults and options. It is to make us interact more with Windows and so get more enjoyment out of the OS ;-D
You can restore .odt to default to LibreOffice, if MS Office has grabbed it, by clicking Start > Settings > Apps > Default Apps > Set defaults by app
, clcik on LibreOffice [x.x] and click Manage. Against each file extension that you want to default to LO, click on the other program icon and select LibreOffice. Change happens immediately so close out when done. Cheers, Al
It’s more to create a NEW document. Apparently, when I installed MS Office; MS removed Libre Office Writer from my Right-Click menu. I had already changed the default, and that helped make it clearer as to which type of file I was saving. But still wish I didn’t have to delete the DOCx file.
Creating files from right-click in file manager can give unexpected results. I assumed you wanted LO in the Open With menu. I hope all is settled now. Cheers, Al
Yes, I’d already done that. But now my Libre Writer files have a .docx extension. I guess I can live with that as opposed to having to edit the registry every month. Thanks!
“But now my Libre Writer files have a .docx extension”
I don’t know what you have done to get that. Is that when you save a new file? To create a new file it is best from within the application, say Writer, just press Ctrl+N to get a new document, or select from a template in File > New…
In Writer to always save as .odt (recommended) click on menu Tools > Options > Load/Save > General
and under Default File Format and ODF Settings in the field:
- ODF format version: choose the version that says (recommended)
- Document type: Text document
- Always save as: ODF Text document (*.odt)
- Warn when not saving in ODF or default format: Tick the box
Thanks, again! Things seem to be running more smoothly, now
