LibreOffice_25.2.4_MacOS_x86-64.dmg - an [installation] error message appears

I just tried to install the latest version for Mac Intel (iMac 2019/OS Sequoia 15.5 (24F74)). When I clicked the *.dmg file to drag to Applications got this error:

The operation can’t be completed because some items had to be skipped. For each item, choose File > Get Info, make sure “Locked” is deselected, and then check the Sharing & Permissions section. When you are sure the items are unlocked and not designated as Read Only or No Access, try again…

Where did you get the DMG from?

I have seen this happen on occasion, but those messages are often linked to components that require broader disk access than just the soffice binary.

I got it from the LibreOffice website.

Is this an Intel Mac?
Have you set the correct disk read/write permissions?

Correct. Intel based iMac (forgot LibreOffice is dual PC/Mac). Permissions shouldn’t have to be set but I did check anyway and they were correct.

And have you checked, that you download the DMG for Inlel? By default, the download page would offer a DMG for Silicon. See tdf#165150 and tdf#166677.

Yes. I made sure.

My first time posting and may I chime in with the same problem??

Following my suggestion, several of the seniors I help have ended their subscriptions to Microsoft 365 and have switched to LibreOffice. This switch began some months ago.

One of them today [2025-08-11] ran into a problem trying to update LibreOffice and I visited to try and help. Here’s what happened:

Her computer is a MB Air M4 running macOS 15.6. Her recent, but older version of LO had been running just fine.

We found a new version of LO and downloaded the correct [Silicon] version. When we went to install it, we got this alert: “The operation can’t be completed because some items had to be skipped. For each item, choose File > Get Info, make sure “Locked” is deselected, and then check the Sharing & Permissions section. When you are sure the items are unlocked and not designated as Read Only or No Access, try again.”

Following guidance we found online we went to the old version of LO in Applications, did a Get Info, unlocked it and changed My Permissions from Read Only to Read/Write and also changed Everyone to read/write. Should add that while we were in Get Info mode, “Fetching” was set to Read/Write but it never stopped displaying the spinning gearwheel while we had Get Info open.

We also went to Sys Settings > Privacy and Security > Full Disk Access and added LO.

Did a restart, but no joy; keep getting the alert “The operation can’t be completed” etc,

Anyone have a possible solution to this problem?

Try using Intel version. Yes it will use the emulation.

I found the solution.
• Drag the existing LO application to the trash
• Download and install the latest version for your Mac
• Be sure the new version works, then it’s safe to empty your trash.
