LibreOffice 25.8.2 will not complete installation

I use Windows 11 (64-bit) and downloaded using both Microsoft Edge and Firefox. I even tried downloading Version 25.8.1.1 as well as Version 25.8.2.

There was no problem with either download but I got these error messages when trying to install: Internal Error 2502 and 2503. I don’t know if that is an error message aimed at my system or the download.

Any ideas for completing the download are greatly appreciated.

I can’t check details at the moment but see General Installation Issues (Windows) - The Document Foundation Wiki

Documentation/HowTo/Work around Windows Error code 2503 and 2502

Your system. The installer will try to write temporary files to a folder, but is not allowed to.
.
Most likely either an additional security/anti-virus suite or the controlled folder access in Windows settings. (If only “known” software is allowed to write on your system it is not possible to install something new…)

Thank you for your help. I checked the Properties/Security settings in both the LibreOffice download and [c:/temp]. No changes were needed in the Download section and I added Full Control in the Temp section. (see attached screenshot). Unfortunately, I continue to get the same 2502 and 2503 error messages when I attempt to install LibreOffice.

If it matters, I use Bitdefender anti-virus although that has never been a problem before. Most of the articles you referenced go to a page that says Windows 10 is no longer supported. I would appreciate any other suggestions for resolving this issue.

So, did you turn off your anti-virus during installation as both @Wanderer and the linked wiki page said?

No. That’s something I found only by ignoring most of the text on both linked sites, when going from there to Microsoft (troubleshooter tool). And even then: No further support by MS does not mean all older tools stopped working…
(And LibreOffice only skipped support for Win7)

That is a really interesting point. I guess most users of Crowdstrike didn’t had problems before July 19th in 2024.
Reminds me of “Yesterday it worked!”
Good luck with this attitude. Especially, if you did never need a backup.

I will quote directly:

Disable antivirus
Generally, when installing LibreOffice, antivirus software should be disabled. This is specifically true for Windows Defender’s Controlled Folder Access, which is known to interfere with LibreOffice install procedure (Warning 1909, Internal error 2902, and Error 1336 mentioned above might be the result of this). After installation, antivirus should be reactivated to previous state (however, in Windows Defender case, it might be necessary to add LibreOffice’s soffice.bin to the Defender’s Controlled Folder Access exceptions list).

Otherwise I can only suggest to use a portable version of LibreOffice (no traditional install), or use Microsofts own software, as MS usually chooses to trust its own stuff. Last resort is an office-suite running in your browser…

Changing the settings at C:/Windows/Temp/Security solved the problem

Reset rights afterwards, if you did not read/used this:

Thanks for the help, as I’m not familiar with directory items. I went to the Properties and Security tabs of both c:/Windows and c:/tmp. The attached note has the settings as listed for each.

I did not change anything today and, after reading the article you sent, not sure what to do next, if anything. LibreOffice seems to be working properly, although I still need to work on some aspects of its appearance.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
