LibreOffice 25.8.3.2 HELP!

On November 15, 2025, I installed the latest version of LibreOffice and, since then, I’ve had 3 corrupted databases: one about Movies, another about Books, and another about Countries.

I still had some time with the first one working, which gave me time to notice that the macro module had a different font, leading me to conclude that there were changes in this new version and that they messed with things that weren’t absolutely necessary. Then the file failed, I lost contact with the application, and the screen went completely white. The window to try to recover the document appeared, without success, and I had to “Close the program”. But it was only possible to close the application using the “Task Manager”. From then on, whenever I tried to open any LibreOffice application (Writer, Calc), the document recovery window appeared. This happened several times and I had to “Discard everything” in the recovery window and reject the document recovery data in order to continue using the computer.
Then the same thing happened with the other databases and I’m starting to go crazy with this new version 25.8.3.2 of LibreOffice. I even tried with an older backup version and the same thing happened again.
Since the program doesn’t offer me the possibility to go back to the old version, I ask:

  • Where can I download the version I used, 25.8.2.2?

Thank you.

Seems you have not tested in Safe Mode.

Older versions of LibreOffice (no longer updated!) are available in the archive

Thank you for the information, but the path you provided only leads me to an index of older versions and doesn’t allow any downloads.

would you mind clicking on them to browse through ?

Okay. Thanks for your reply. I was looking for version 25.8.2.2, which was the version I had before the last update, but I think 25.2.7 should also work because this new 25.8.3.2 must have serious problems. And my advice to anyone using Base is DO NOT UPDATE!
I’ll let you know if it worked.

I’ve already completely uninstalled LibreOffice from my computer and even manually deleted all the files that were still in “Program Files,” but I can’t install version 25.2.7.2 because the installation wizard displays a message saying that a newer version was found and that I need to remove it - which I’ve already done!

I don’t understand! I can’t find any files anymore after uninstalling. Any ideas? Thanks!

Okay. I had to do a fresh uninstall of the new version 25.8.3.2 (which no longer existed) and it worked. I was able to install the old version 25.2.7 and I have Base working again. I was able to open and see that the 3 “corrupted” databases were okay, with no data loss.Thank you for your support.

welcome

maybe you could amend it ?

No. My warning stands: if you use LibreOffice Base, version 25.8.2.2, do not update to version 25.8.3.2 or you may have a distressing experience. I am only referring to the Base application, of course - I haven’t tried the others!

Could you write a bug for this?
Seems to be a special bug with LibreOffice and Windows.
I’m working here with Base and different versions of LibreOffice - also 25.8.3.2 - under OpenSUSE Linux. No problem with most databases except external Firebird (since LO 24.8…)

Hello Mr. Rober G.,
Thank you for commenting on this post, but the issue has already been resolved with the complete uninstallation of version 25.8.3.2 and its replacement with the previous version 25.2.7.
I took some screenshots that documented the occurrence step by step, but after solving the problem I forgot about the intended complaint to LibreOffice because “it’s easier to stay quiet than to stir up quicksand”. The more we move, the more they try to bury us, always debating our statements. The fault is always ours or the Windows version’s. And the blame “always dies single,” as we say here in Portugal.

It’s relevant for me to tell you about an identical situation (I think).

In August 2016, I had a problem with a drone, a Phantom 4, from DJI. After performing a mandatory firmware update for the remote control, I could no longer access it with the Samsung tablet that I always used and which had Android 6.0.1 installed. I personally spoke with a technician, took the device in, we ran multiple tests, and discovered that it was possible to access the remote control with a tablet that had an older version of Android 4.4.4. In other words, with the firmware installation, I lost access to the remote control because it wasn’t compatible with the previous Android version. This could only have happened because the technicians who updated the firmware thought they were working with the latest version when they were using an even older version.
The solution was to send the drone to Spain to install the old firmware on it, since this wasn’t possible through the website and I would have to wait about a month (or more), or buy a new, older tablet! Of course, I opted for the third alternative - returning the equipment with just cause.

Regarding the new version of LibreOffice 25.8.3.2, I think I already summarized the situation in the initial post. You are an experienced person and don’t need to see the recovery message windows because you should know them well.

Best regards,
Quaresma

Everything OK here with sqlite-jdbc, HSQL (external and embedded) and Firebird (embedded).

If you say so, who am I to disagree? I’m sure I’ll understand your comment in time. I even thought you wanted to send me the link to version 25.8.2.2, but I don’t need it anymore, because version 25.2.7 solved the problem perfectly. Thank you.

to clarify (if needed), there is plague of likely false negative, likely linked to the install process, that are hard to spot;
e.g. for your beloved 25.8.2.2 → 169387 – Error after upgrading LibreOffice

chances are if you reinstall a 25.8.3.2, it will work fine.
or maybe if you can share a “corrupted” .odb, the problem can be reproduced/identified by someone else.

Dear Mr. RobertG and Mr. Villeroy,

There’s a situation that finally crossed my mind and that MAYBE is related to the crash of my “databases” after installing the new version 25.8.3.2, and which didn’t occur to me before because I didn’t think it was significant. You will tell me if it was or wasn’t the cause of the problem.

The day before the update, I had changed the backup path in: LibreOffice Menu > Tools > Options > Paths > Backups, and where the default path was, I changed it to another location where I had created a new folder for “BackUP,” to use a macro for automatic backups made by Mr. RobertG in 2023. But neither the macro worked nor did the “BackUP” folder receive any files. Meanwhile, I deleted the “BackUP” folder, deleted the macro, and put the default backup path back. In the meantime, I installed the new version, but the old backup path remains. Any bells ringing?

Let’s look at the timeline:

  1. LibreOffice version 25.8.2.2 - Everything works fine.
  2. Inclusion of the macro for automatic backups. - Macro did not work.
  3. Change of backup path. - New folder did not receive any copy.
  4. Upgrade to version 25.8.3.2 - I managed to open the database but it soon failed.
  5. Resetting the backup path to the default path. - It continued to fail.
  6. Uninstallation of version 25.8.3.2.
  7. Reinstallation of version 25.8.3.2 - It continued to fail.
  8. Another uninstallation of version 25.8.3.2.
  9. Downgrade to version 25.2.7 - Everything is back to work.

If you’re going to tell me that the default backup path can’t be changed, then honestly, I’m sorry. I like to analyze my mistakes so I don’t repeat them again.

Tried this:
Created a new backup folder in my documents folder.
Changed the path in Tools → Options → LibreOffice → Path …
Closed LO, reopened and started a database, which creates a backup when opening.
Works without any problem. Backup file is there.

Might be the permissions for the new path you created had been wrong so LO couldn’t write there?

Okay RobertG, thank you!
But I prefer to save my backups at the end of the work and not at the beginning. You might say that it’s indifferent whether you back up when opening the database (before updating it) or when closing it (after updating it). I understand and I can even agree with you because “before updating today”, it’s the same as “after updating yesterday”.
But I prefer to “save today what I updated today”. And it’s always on my external drive (cloud). It’s a matter of habit because if I want to access the external drive from outside, from my laptop, I always have the updated version! Anyway, thank you for the tip.

And yes, you’re right.
I created a backup folder inside the LibreOffice installation folder to keep everything together. I managed to create the folder, but then I couldn’t save anything there due to lack of permissions. I didn’t understand why I can create a folder but can’t save a file.
AAAAAHHHHHHHHH! :smile:So that’s it! Your macro was the cause of my problem with version 25.8.3.2, and LibreOffice is innocent!
When I opened the database, the macro found the folder to make the backup, but it couldn’t save anything there and went into a loop. Was that it?
With so much space on my computer, I created the backup folder in a forbidden place. Ha! Ha! :grin:Me and my bad luck!

Let’s hope this had been the reason. So you could update LO again in future.
