I created a shared directory on my home computer, running ubuntu 25.04, for the use of two users of the computer. It is not connected to a network and the directory is not meant to be accessed from outside the machine. I can copy files to and from the directory, and can open those files with the corresponding app, except for LibreOffice, which does not even “see” the directory. If I try to open an .odt document from file manager, LibreOffice says path to file does not exist. I’m thinking that this is a permission issue. Has anyone had this problem and knows a solution?
I guess you are right, but as you wrote “Ubuntu” you need to think not only users rights, but also containers rights - as default install for LO is a Snap on ubuntu.
.
So the link by fpy comes to “removed snap and did a regular install”.
It may also be possible to extend rights for the snap.
Another question would be where you mont the shared drive. If you mount in your home-folder, where LO has access it may work.
I specifically tried to make it clear that the shared directory was set up to be used (read, write, delete) by the two user of the computer and not a shared drive to be accessed by other computers over the net. Does that make any difference to these answers?
No. Intentions seldom matter with computers.
.
And as you told nothing about your actual setup and the rights of your snap, I guess for me the topic is closed. I will not install an Ubuntu just to find your problem somewhere…
