LibreOffice doesn't like to autosave my files any longer on this laptop

Hey everyone. I’m having trouble with LibreOffice on my laptop. The problem is that I can’t autosave my documents in the Writer section of the program… and I was working on fiction, too, which makes this even worse.

Could someone please give me some help with what I need to do to fix this? It deleted my unsaved data twice in a row, and I don’t know where to find it again.

Assuming that you are on Linux or Windows, you find the settings in tools - Options - Load/Save - General. Then tick Save AutoRecovery information every and adjust the time interval to your liking.

Note that the AutoRecovery function is not a replacement for the Save command. Always save your work, don’t rely on a mythical autosave function - that doesn’t exist. When LibreOffice closes normally, the autorecovery information for open documents is deleted. If you don’t save your work yourself, it will be lost.

Don’t rely on a safety feature intended to assist only in the event of a crash.

Save as as soon as you start a new document. Every time you pause to think after that press Ctrl+S to save. If you decide to make a major edit, before you do, click File - Save a copy and save it with the date appended to the file name. That way you have a backup in case you change your mind.

It is your data and you have final control on what is saved and what isn’t. There is no one else looking over your shoulder at your data such as with Microsoft 365 or Google documents
