LibreOffice fails from 6.1 to 7.1 on MacOS 10.13.6 High Sierra. What do I do?

This is on a MacBookPro Early 2011. LibreOffice used to work, but now always crashes upon opening. It works fine on my 27" iMac running Mojave 10.14.6. I use it primarily to open old files (AppleWorks, etc.) on my Mac before I upgrade to El Capitan.

I used the terminal and entered safe mode as suggested. LibreOffice still crashed exactly as it had before. The errors from problem report:
Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGABRT)
Exception Codes: EXC_I386_GPFLT
Exception Note: EXC_CORPSE_NOTIFY

Hello,

does this start LibreOffice? (This is a test, not a solution)

  • Open a terminal (use Launchpad and search for “Terminal”, if you don’t know how to start a terminal)
  • Enter /Applications/LibreOffice.app/Contents/MacOS/soffice --safe-mode and
  • Type ENTER key
  • Click button Continue in Safe Mode
