LibreOffice Writer Backgrounds [when switching normal and web view]

Hi!

Is there a way to have a document background change on the same document when switching from normal to web view? Like a thin frame line around the text in normal view, then when switching over to web view, have the background switch over to the frame color in normal mode be on the left side top to bottom fading into a white back ground where the text would be? or really, just basically have the background change to a different one when switching from normal to we view?

Thank you very much!

Hi again,

To include also documents that have been created in Word, but have been imported/converted from Word to Writer that are already set up this way, having one background in normal view, but then when switching to view it in web view the background changes.

Thank you very much! :slightly_smiling_face:

Make sure these are selected

  1. In the menu, click View and make sure that Boundaries is ticked/highlighted
  2. Click Tools > Options > LibreOffice Writer > Formatting Aids and under Object Boundaries make sure that the following are selected: Text and Border Outline

Hi,

Thank you very much for your response, very much appreciated. Sadly, this didn’t do it :frowning: , as in normal view the doc did have the blue line frame background, but when clicking to switch it into web view, it didn’t change the background like it does in Word, but kept the blue line frame background like it has in normal view.

Please give a sample of a document with a frame in web view.

Do you have a default background for your documents?

Hi,

You may see the set of docs here:

https://www.yahwehyahuwshua.org/_files/archives/c394f2_790a2dacc43c418e81c65b7bc1374ee7.rar?dn=Firstfruits'%20Purer%20Scriptures.rar

When opening one in Word, in normal view, there’s the blue line frame on the pages, but when selecting to go into Web view, the blue line frame changes to the blue area on the left side.

When opening one in Writer, the blue line frame is there in Normal view and remains there in Web view, it doesn’t change

Do you mean like an uploaded template in Styles or?

Why a whole set of documents? Just one sample page showing the issue would have done.

There is a blue border set around the page in 1 Këph.doc.

Looks like a bug in Word that causes the border to be much wider and blurred.

There are some very clear ways to see the difference between Page view and Web view,

  • set your screen zoom to 100%. Page view will show the edges of the pages, Web view will go edge to edge.
  • Look at the top ruler to see the width of the document.
  • There are virtually no margins in web view

BTW .doc is not a good format, always save in .odt and export the completed document to a foreign format only if required.

Hi Earnest,

Thank you so much for your reply, and indeed, truly apologize not only for being in a hurry when the prior message was sent, thus was easier at that moment to send the whole set, but also for the delay on this reply.

Yes, it does seem converting over from Word .doc to Writer isn’t probably the best way.

You do need to convert from .doc; it is an obsolete format that cannot easily be recovered in the event of any corruption.

  • If you choose to stick with Microsoft Office then save in its native format, .docx
  • If you choose to use LibreOffice, then save in its native format , .odt

Both of those formats are less likely to be corrupted, and if they are, often the text can be recovered.

BTW I don’t see the problem in differentiating between Normal and Web view
