Libreoffice Writer Can't Export PDF "General Input Output Error"

I’m running Kubuntu 18.04LTS (Latest Updates), and my version of Libreoffice seems to be broken somehow.

When I go to export a PDF of something, including a brand new document, I get “general input/output error”, or a random crash.

I have no idea what happened and I haven’t touched the system in a while except to update things.

I tried purging libreoffice and reinstalling, but this didn’t solve the issue. I don’t know if I missed some config files or something when I purged libreoffice*, but it didn’t work.

Not sure where to go from here. What should I do to resolve this issue?

Please try resetting user profile (safe mode). Failing that, possibly you have some compatibility problems with updated poppler on your system (which is used for PDF export)?

I reset the user profle and still get the error while in safe mode. Not sure what to do after that. I tried resetting to factory defaults, but this also didn’t help. I also did another full purge and removed the .config/libreoffice folder. No dice there.

What version of LO you use (you missed that information)? how did you install it (there are a number of options, like from apt repo (and then there’s a PPA from Ubuntu Libreoffice Packaging team that integrates with the official package there, allowing to update to a later version than that in the distro repo); snap; appimage; TDF DEB packages…)?

@Mike2 I installed it from the apt repo. I haven’t added any PPA’s. The version is 6.0.7.3
