26.2.4.2 win 11.
The grammar checker does not appear to work. Suspecting a problem with Lightproof, I tried WritingTool, disabling Lightproof. Still no grammar checking from what I can see. I’m down to using ProWritingAid and an old copy of CorelDraw.
What do I have to do to get grammar checking working?
Click Tools > Options > Languages and Locales > English Sentence Checking and make sure that you have Possible mistakes, and any other options you need, ticked
This does not work.
Possibly a graphics issue, from this old question, Opening to last document on firing up LO Writer, it shows “Skia/Vulkan”
An older Win 10 computer is unlikely to support Skia in hardware. Click Tools > Options > LibreOffice > View , tick the box Force Skia software rendering. OK and allow LibreOffice to restart.
Other possibilities
Check by typing dt in a new document, press F3 (maybe Fn+F3) and spell check the inserted AutoText. It should flag the he in line? he thought

In addition to suggestions, we can force a grammar check:
Menu / Tools / Spellings… (F7)

I don’t use dark mode. The Check Grammar box is checked. If I do a Grammar check where there is an error, the Text Language is set to English (UK). If there is nothing to correct, the Text Language is set to None.

OK. I found “Sentence Spacing” in “English Sentence” and now it’s finding the double spacing, etc. Is there a list that specifies what the Spell Checker does?
The Grammar Checker still appears to be doing little more than spell checking, not finding missing apostrophes at the end of speech, or querying incorrect contractions. Again, is there a list of what the Grammar Checker does? Maybe I’m expecting too much.
Grammar is limited in what it does
Did you enable the built-in version, Tools > Options > Languages and Locales > LanguageTool Server? Or did you attempt to install it, which will fail to work?
The built-in version of WriterTool? I don’t understand what the LanguageTool Server does. I do not use an external server. Confused here.
Yes. I’m getting the impression I’m expecting too much.
If unsure about a dialogue, as a last resort, click the Help button which will take you to Language Tools Help which has a link at the bottom of the page to Language Tools home page.
