LO crashes when trying to change appearance settings

I’m trying to change it from dark mode back to light mode and whenever I select the appearance tab in Options the whole thing crashes. No other tab does this. Tried with LO itself as well as Writer and Calc. Tried updating but it says it’s up to date.

Version: 26.2.1.2 (X86_64)
Build ID: 620(Build:2)
CPU threads: 16; OS: Windows 11 X86_64 (build 26200); UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: en-CA (en_CA); UI: en-US
Calc: CL threaded

It sounds like possible corruption in the user profile.
First check in Safe mode:

  1. Click Help > Restart in safe mode > Continue in Safe Mode
  2. Click Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Appearance, does LibreOffice crash?
    1. If so then you might need to Modify or Uninstall LibreOffice (Start menu > Settings > Apps > Installed Apps, search for LibreOffice, click the ellipsis at the end and select Modify or Uninstall) and then install again
    2. If not then it is your user profile.

User Profile
Backup your user profile before starting. It is good to make a backup from time to time anyway

  1. Close LibreOffice
  2. Open an Explorer window (Win+E) and click View > Show and make sure Hidden items is ticked, if it isn’t click it to toggle it to a tick
  3. Click in the address bar at the top and paste %APPDATA%\libreoffice\4
  4. Right click the folder user and select Copy
  5. Right click in a blank space and select Paste. It will paste the folder with name user - Copy, rename it to user2026-07-10

Reset part of the profile

  1. Click Start menu > LibreOffice > LibreOffice (Safe Mode)
  2. In the dialogue, click Reset to Factory Settings > Reset settings and user interface modifications then click Apply Changes and Restart
  3. When LibreOffice opens, can you set open the Appearance tab?
  4. If not then you might need to Reset entire user profile and then copy back some of the folders from your backup copy, see the linked user profile page above for more information
