LO creating dot files

im backing up my wifes’ computer . She uses LO and there are a lot of hidden files in the same directory as the ‘proper’ eg Filename.odt

.FileName.odt.xxxxx (5 random characters) with different creation dates

I assume its a working backup in her (windows) computer whilst she is doing stuff and it would be safe not to back them up to the backup RaspPi.
1.is this correct
2.why are they still there . Is it something she is doing ( and I’ll need to tell her to stop - wish me luck !)

many thanks

  • LibreOffice backup files are usually the [filename].bak. The path to the folder can seen in Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Paths

  • Lock files can be left behind if LibreOffice crashes, they are usually just a kb or so and are in the form of .~lock.[filename].odt# and can be safely deleted if the file is no longer open. They would be in the same folder as the file.

  • Temporary files are in a folder defined in Paths as above. The filename is not recognisable, but they are in a folder beginning lu and ending in .tmp, e.g. lu16840c4inl.tmp

  • Version information is included in the file itself according to Version Management

I would hazard a guess that OneDrive or other cloud sync system uses/creates those files. Or maybe an outside versioning system. If that is the case, you should check the help of that/those systems
