Lots of Writer crashing since installing 24.8.2.1

Since i began using latest version of writer, i get a lot of crashing, particularly around highlighting and then trying to copy. Is this a version bug or something else? I manually downloaded this version by clicking the icon in Writer indicating a new version was available. After i had so many crashes, i deleted and re-installed from original download, but crashes still happening. I use Windows 11 latest update. It happens in .odt documents though i have imported other docs and then saved as .odt. Suggestions?
Note: i really don’t want to lose my settings and preferences as creating a new toolbar takes a lot of time. How to keep as is and stop crashing?

Answer to this question requires a minimum of technical data.

OS name? How did you update: manually, automatic, distro package auto maintenance, …?

Does this happen with specific documents, such as .odt, .doc(x), …?

thanks for your quick reply, ajlittoz. I have added the info you requested.

It might be a graphics issue. In the menu, click Tools - Options - LibreOffice - View and tick the box Force Skia software rendering.
.
You could find LibreOffice in Control Panel - Programs and Features right click it and select Repair.

I am on Windows 11 but have not found 24.8.2.1 unstable at all

Thanks for your reply, EarnestAl. I checked where you suggested and box was already ticked. I have repaired or reinstalled Liber-office twice now. I wonder if a doc i brought into my .odt doc could be the problem? If so, how can i check which doc? I don’t want to go into safe mode if it means loosing all my profile info. Suggestions anyone?

You can go into safe mode to check if LibreOffice works correctly without affecting your profile. The trick is to get past the first dialogue without being tempted to play with its settings.
.
Click Help > Restart in safe mode > Continue in safe mode and you can open documents but using a temporary profile and without Skia loading nor any extensions. When you have finished testing, close LibreOffice then open it again from the menu and you will be back to your current profile.
.
You can even start LibreOffice with a temporary profile.
.
If it is necessary to reset your profile for whatever reason, you can restore most of your settings, templates, etc. by using the manual method of renaming the user folder, allowing a new profile to be created and, with LibreOffice closed, copying back the folders using a file manager.
