make a food nutrition database

Hello,
Firstly, I appreciate your attention and help in my case.
I would like to make a food nutrition database in the libre office.
It has some functions such as:

  1. record food nutrient content in a table, with food name & nutrients content per 100g. for example, 100g of rice has 100kcal energy & other 100 kinds of food

  2. select some of the data from the table above into another table or form, & able to change the nutrients content based on the serving size.
    for example, I want to know the nutrients value of rice & mee only. Rice, serving size 50g, 50kcal energy; Mee, serving size 50g, 50kcal energy

  3. sum up the data in table 2, in this case, 50g of rice & 50g of mee provides 100kcal energy in total in the same table.

  4. compare the data in number 3 with a recommended value, in either the same or another table.

I have created a table for function 1 by using LibreOffice base and stuck at function 2 for a few days…
I have never touch database before but learning it bit by bit through the youtube tutorials and this forum. However, I could not make my own database (maybe because I don’t have some foundation and not understand the function very well… ) Hope to get your help soon. Thank you so much!!

I was looking into doing this as well. The FDA had database information that you can use . There a several table of information and may require some study to learn how to access the information correctly. Was a project I was looking into for use at work. Recent health issues have delayed that project as I’m am on sick leave.
Would be willing to collaborate on this project if you are interested.

@kee,

The Ask site is a question and answer site. Your question is very general and would require a lot of back and forth conversation - not how this site is designed. You are encouraged to ask specific questions.

The Base documentation may be of help. It does walk through some of the processes. There is also information on setting up a database (see How to & Tutorial section) → LibreOffice Base Guide

@AdmFubar I am glad that we are interested in the same project. Hope to have your contact card for the collaboration. Thanks again!

@Ratslinger, thank you for your advice and the guideline!! I will look into it again.
