Managing watermarks in Calc (and Writer)

Hello – first time in Ask.

Mac macOS 10.13.3 on iMac, 10.13.4 on Macbook Air
Libre Office 7.2.5.2 (I think) on iMac, 7.2.3.2 on Macbook Air

I sometimes receive things from Windows (Word or XL) with watermarks in. I used to be able to get hold of these using View>Navigator. Anyway, the advice now seems to be use Format>Watermark. BUT when I click on Format (in Calc, or in Writer for that matter), ‘Watermark’ doesn’t appear in the drop down list. What can I do, please? In some cases I just want to delete the watermark, because it’s a damn nuisance. Just now, I was wanting to alter a file to keep the watermarks, but change them to something useful.

Any help appreciated.

Keep up the good work,

Roger Fern,

Excel
I created an xlsx file in Excel 2010 with a background watermark (Page Layout > Background) I had sitting around (delete .odt extension in below file - that was a bit random)
WatermarkedFile.xlsx.odt (30.5 KB)

The watermark is not visible in normal view, only print preview.
To remove click Format > Page style > Background and set to None, OK and save.

Word
In Word 2010, I added watermark text (Page layout > Watermark) and an image anchored to header and placed behind paragraph text.
In Writer, both can be selected and deleted in Navigator. The image can instead be directly selected and deleted. The watermark text can be edited in Format > Watermark.

Calc does not have a watermark feature (you could use a background graphic though that is used during printing), but Writer has. In exactly that place, menu Format → Watermark…
