Missing characters when Writer is displaying in 100%

I recently opened a document, and I found that several characters (letters and punctuation) were ‘missing’ – completely gone. There was no pattern to the missing characters. I also found that if I increased or decreased the zoom from 100%, this effect disappeared. I did not notice this effect at any other zoom level.

This effect occurred in EVERY document I opened.

I have uploaded an examples below:

Writer100

The font is a standard font (Liberation Serif), and I checked the fonts in the Font Manager (no apparent problems). I am running GalliumOS 3.1, a fork of Ubuntu Bionic, optimized for repurposed Chromebooks.

Has anyone else seen this effect? Does anyone know a fix for this effect?

First steps

Unfortunately, you have not specified your LibreOffice version.

So start with step 3 or 5, whichever applies to you.

If this is not successful, see if step 6 or 7 is suitable for you.

I thought I had seen a similar issue here, in that case it was a Mac and the issue was a duplicated font. You might want to check for duplicates.
Here is a link to Google Help site that was referenced in a comment in question Why will LibreOffice no longer show or accept y’s and z’s?

No that was not a zoom issue.
