Misspelled words are not underlined

As subject says. The words are being auto-corrected if a rule exists, but otherwise there is no indication of spelling errors.

This worked in numerous previous versions, many years ago. Could you revert whatever bad changes caused this to stop working? There are no obvious improvements since, so the revert should be painless for the entire user base as long as it restores the correct operation of the spelling.

What does Tools>Options, Languages & Locales>Writing Aids show?

A couple of things to check

  1. Is Tools > Automatic spell checking highlighted? If not, click to enable automatic spell checking.
  2. If you click Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Appearance and, under Customizations, you select Spelling mistakes, what colour is shown?

The first I would check is, if there are dictionaries for canadian english available on your system.
.
If not, the chain to find your “could you” is

  • user-install → ask user
  • admin installed it: ask admin
  • depending on type of install (regular/snap/flatpack/appimage) check if maintainer provided additional languages not directly installed
  • Same for installs from LibreOffice.org: Check if you need to install additional languages.
  • LibreOffice itself is at 25.8 now, so if above doesn’t solve it you may try, if a newer version helps.

Ah, thanks for pointing this out! The option #1 you mention is off by default. Previously, it used to be on, whether it was exposed through the menu or not.
So, the bad change is the unreasonable default. It should be ‘on’ rather than ‘off’. The dev team should consider changing it to ‘on’, so as to avoid user confusion.
