Mouse pointer is offset from where the mouse acts

I find that the mouse pointer is offset from where it acts. In text, the position selected is about a character to the right of the mouse pointer. In the tab bar, the tab selected is 2 or 3 mm to the right of the mouse pointer.

This seemed like the problem described in an earlier question: “Text cursor is offset from the mouse pointer”. I tried what seemed similar (there is no longer an option for opengl) and turned off hardware acceleration. This did not help.

I could find nothing similar that is more recent.
