We used to use MS Powerpoint to show Hymn Lyrics in our church and decided to switch to LibreOffice. The Text Shadow Effect isn’t showing when opened in LibreOffice. The Pptx file is read-only and can’t be modified without authorization. Is there a way to keep the text shadow from MS office while using LibreOffice?
Your tags seem to be inconsistent with your question:
- writer while you reference a Powerpoint; the equivalent component is Impress
- base though your question is not related to databases
And you don’t mention OS name, exact LO version and document extension (both source and target ones which would help to identify which component you use: Writer or Impress).
Regarding text shadow, Format>Character, Font Effects tab (in Writer) provides a checkbox Shadow to add a tiny “shadow” to characters. Note that the effect is really tiny.
It is likely (I didn’t experiment at this stage) that you can achieve a better result in Impress or Draw by duplicating the word or text and offsetting it a bit with different colour and transparency (with the advantage of fully controlling the direction and intensity of the shadow).
That sounds like Bug 41253 - FILEOPEN PPTX Shadows for characters missing
If the presentation is saved as .odp then it could be modified. There are two ways to add a shadow to text in Impress. In the Sidebar > Properties either
- Select the text or text box and click the icon with tooltip Toggle Shadow. Or
- Expand the pane labelled Shadow further down and tick the box Enable. Play with the settings to reduce the effect, say Distance 0.2 pt and Blur 0.1 pt
[Edit]
If authorisation is required for consistency reasons, could they supply you with a standalone powerpoint presentation (Browse at Kiosk)?
