Navigator loses settings when Writer is restarted

The navigator loses its settings when LibreOffice Writer is restarted.

I set in the navigator that I see only headings and that all headings are expanded. This is perfect for the overview in larger documents. However, when I reopen the document, these settings are lost, and I have to set everything again.

I think this is a bug. At least not expected behavior.

My version:
Version: 7.5.2.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 53bb9681a964705cf672590721dbc85eb4d0c3a2
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19045; UI render: Skia/Vulkan; VCL: win

Please be more specific. Which settings are preserved and which not. Is the setting that you see only headings preserved? For me, that is the case. The folding state is not remembered indeed.

The view can be quickly expanded using the right-click menu of “Headings” or with the shortcut key Ctrl+* (numeric keypad only, probably can be changed to another shortcut key).

At least in LO 7.5.2.2, the navigator indeed always will expand on the current location when clicking back into the document. In contrast (I think) with previous versions, open headings do not anymore autocollapse when you move somewhere else.

“UI: show headings expanded in Navigator (if open) when a text document is opened”.

None of the mentioned settings are saved:

  1. expanded headings
  2. show only headings in the navigator menu

It will be good to be clear in your actual question so people do not have to read up all comments to see the problem more sharply. I advise to add this information to your question: you can edit it.

For me, only 1 is not saved (LO 7.5.2.2 on Linux Fedora 38).

Sorry, in my opinion this information was in my first post:
I set in the navigator that I see only headings and that all headings are expanded. … However, when I reopen the document, these settings are lost, and I have to set everything again.

I can’t edit my first post.

Indeed, I see, my apologies. Rereading it, it is indeed clear that you refer to both settings being not remembered. Although we are using the same version, for me the 2nd setting is remembered. The difference is the operating system.

Can you also check whether you have set user data? Does the document open on the position you were when last closed?

Yes, it usually opens at the position where the cursor was last time. Not sure if that answers your first question.

You said that the setting that you see only headings preserved. How do you set that? For me it is a small button at the top of the navigator:

That means that you have user data set. The cursor returns if the file is opened by the same user as saved with the document. For one moment, I thought that not remembering the navigator settings may be related to that. It is not.

Indeed, I also set this using that button, with tooltip “Content Navigation View” (the icons look quite differently, though). Even when opening a blank Writer window, then changing the view, then closing Writer, that setting is preserved for me.

That worked for me. And now it is also saved in the document I am working on and when I open it again.
