New issue: LibreOffice Base 25.2.0.3 report viewer blacked out / window heavily shaded

Hi all, I’ve recently ran into a problem. My report viewer has started to black out the window so I can’t view a report clearly. It appears heavily shaded. Here’s a screenshot (I blacked out my client information on this jpg for their privacy).

Can anyone help me with a fix? This is a new issue, regular user of LibreOffice Base, Calc, and Writer for years, never had this happen before. It has regularly appeared clear/no shading (the report itself would appear white with black text). No font or viewer settings have been changed for years.

EDIT: I’ll add that all the menu items and border texts view “unshrouded”. Just can’t view the report itself.

Thank you.

Maybe have a look at this and the comment below it, How to show margins - #6 by EarnestAl

although, not a margin issue, the comment regarding changing the theme fixed it. Not sure what happened there. Theme “automatic” doesn’t work. The other themes all made the report viewer show the report.

Well, thank you EarnestAI.

Still a bug though.

Where a number of fixes for the new interface are in the pipeline.

Note that 25.2.0.3 still is at 0 for the third position so very new and not really suitable for production work

Yes, and a number of fixes to UI already patched for current 25.2.1.2 release build. Move to the incremental patched versions as released, don’t linger…

for lack of a “reply” here on this posting, I’ll post this as a “suggest a solution” –

I’ve just got my LibreOffice software set to advise when an update is ready to install (the small little button that shows up periodically at the top right corner of the menu bars when I use the application), and I click to do it. I have no real idea on what is production and what is beta with that option. Is there a way to know that?

thank you guys

Unfortunately, my “dark on dark” spreadsheet format issue is worse than I thought. This years-old spreadsheet formatting problem is worse than the ability to make out (see) my spreadsheet data, all my date fields have reverted to the numerical equivalent, i.e, all date formatting lost. And “special” characters have also been lost. I’m hesitant to apply work arounds and start fixing (reformatting) dates and special characters just to find future releases may require “fixing” any fix I apply now.

@DWHeikkinen That might be a separate issue. The blacking out is a graphical display issue; a change in formatting and loss of special characters is something else. What format was the file saved in?

Maybe try Help > Restart in safe mode > Continue in Safe Mode and see if the file looks any better. It is a long shot but takes little effort. If the file is back to normal then try disabling OpenCL, if that doesn’t work then consider resetting the user profile

If the file looks bad in Safe Mode then it might have been damaged coincidentally.
You could try installing a previous version of LibreOffice and seeing if it improves, if it does then make a bug report, How to Report Bugs in LibreOffice - The Document Foundation Wiki. If it doesn’t improve then manually reformatting it or updating a previous backup would seem to be the way forward.
