"No Dictionary available"

I’m relatively new to the LibreOffice Suite and I’m trying to use Writer for basic word processor tasks. However I’m having lots of trouble trying to get Spell check working. I have “Automatic Spell Checking” enabled under the “Tools” dropdown but I get a pop up saying “No Dictionary Available” when I click the “Spelling…” option from the dropdown.

How do I get spell check to work?

Click Tools > Spelling, in the dialogue, click the Options button.
Click the link Get more dictionaries online
Find English Dictionary and click the Install button for it

Are you using English US language?

It is probably related to the language of the document or text fragment. (Tools > language) or (status bar)
