Odt viewer for desktop?

I know what I am about to ask here is possible, but I dont know if it has been done, or where I would find it in Writer. The searches I have done so far come up confused or unproductive with respect to the word “odt viewer”, mostly revealing viewers for android or online solutions.

What I want is a desktop odf viewer for Windows. It would look and work almost exactly like the Template Manager, except it would be for all odf files. AutoText works similarly, but it is not really a document manager or viewer like the Template manager, so I only half mention it.

So I know it is possible that such functionality could exist or be built, although I dont know if it already has been, or where to find it if it has.

Is there a general, windows desktop odf viewer like the template manager for general odf documents somewhere to be found? Maybe as an extension?

Ty.

Unless you tell us why you want a Windows .odt viewer, you’ll have silly or obvious answers.

Since nowadays computers have enough memory, use Writer to display your documents.

If your question is motivated by protecting you from modifying contents, you have several ways to assert this:

  • remove write privilege on the file with your file manager
  • you can also save the document read-only by ticking Open file read-only in File>Properties, Security tab
  • you can also do it immediately after opening the file
