about: AI Assistance Reduces Persistence and Hurts Independent Performance
About the study
The āIU Learning Report 2024: How Germany learnsā by IU International University of Applied Sciences examines issues relating to education and learning. For the study, IU surveyed 2,512 people in Germany between the ages of 16 and 65, representative by age and gender. The survey was conducted between 27 March and 9 April 2024.
The only thing that seems «representative» about the study, to me, is the number of people surveyed.
Statistical significance ⦠nowhere to be seen!
What strikes me as I look into this āuniversityā further is the high number of bad Google reviews
Iād say anything 2 years old is quite worthless now, if experience with AI is concerned. A lot has changed.
On the basic problem named, I would not reduce it to use of AI. I see the same, when users
- ask here instead of searching the same term in help
- donāt use google ( I remember times, when lmgtfy was actually funny and not to infested by advertisements⦠)
- tell they used google for hours or searched āeverythingā, when it takes me less than 5 minutes to find that topic solved. (I donāt count the cases, where I know the magic words to add to the search)
The availabillity of ask-sites, reddit etc. can be a big help. But some never learn to think themselves. But honestly I seee the same at older persons, trained offline. Some never manage to get organized and need permanent coaching or supervision.
So maybe an old problem is only seen more often, because of the internetā¦
mieux vaut un qui sait que 10 qui cherchent.
My french is not very good, but I think that would be the case, where I donāt even use googleā¦
And here we come back to the original point: If there is always somebody out there, who can help. How does this change your own behaviour.
