OLE Object linking

Hi,
I’m quite new to LIbreOffice v7.3.7.2, Using Linux Mint 21.1 on Alienware hardware
I’ve converted my invoice to work in LibreOffice and this consists of a few of embedded Calc sheets inside a Writer document. Currently it is set up to link to an external Calc work book with various sheets displayed on various pages of the Writer document.

I see that I can embed a spreadsheet directly into the document rather than linking to an external file, my first hope was that I could create a ‘viewport’ to different pages on this embedded object, but thus far I’ve not found if this is possible. My second idea was to create formular links between the different objects such that a cell may contain a formula

=$object3.$sheet1.$a$1

However I find that this doesn’t work either.

So I guess my questions are:

  1. Is it possible to view diferent sheets of an embeded object in different locations in a Writer document?
  2. Is is possible to create formula’s that bridge OLE objects?
  3. If not, is these features that could be added in the future?

Yes, but not as embedded objects. You are probably already working like this. For other readers: you can copy/paste data from a speadsheet - and from different places in it - as DDE link. Such data are rendered in Writer as a Writer table. If the data in the spreadsheet changes, the Writer file can be updated using Edit - External links (or answering “Yes” to the question to update the links when the document is opened).

No.

This is open source. If the issue is filed, someone may be inclined to take it up. This would certainly be a valid feature request, in my opinion.
