I’ve found nothing new on this so apologies if I’ve missed it!
I’m using LibreOffice 25.2 on a Dell laptop running Windows 10 pro V22H2
I have a writer file, *.odt that contains pictures that are embedded in frames created with the “Insert Caption” option. After saving a Writer file, when I reopen it, or click File > Reload, some of the pictures are missing. It seems to be pretty random as to which are missing. I note that occasionally, as the file opens, the pictures flash up and then disappear. Files not having captions seem to be OK. Any ideas?
Have you manipulated captioned images in any way, like resizing or moving them with the mouse? Have you changed (intentionally or accidentally) the anchor mode?
Try to reduce (a copy of) your document to just one or two problematic pictures and have the disappearance happen systematically. Attach this reduced copy for in-depth analysis.
Continuing the discussion from Pictures in frames disappear on saving my Writer file, August 2025:
I think the answer is that I started with a docx file. On finding the problem I created a new odt file and then copied and pasted the contents across, not realising this probably copied the problem with it. As trying to make a reduced copy that showed the error was a little tricky I started with a new odt file and rebuilt the whole thing. It now seems to work perfectly. Thanks for your help. Without trying to get a reduced file I probably wouldn’t have thought of a complete rebuild!
