Print files begin with garbage text. Libre Office 25.8.1.1 (X86_64) 4 threads Windows 10

16 page English text document, 2 pages on each Portrait page with 2 columns each, using Liberation Serif and Courier New.

My file begins:
NASA/JPL SSD Horizons System Ephemeris app.
https://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/horizons/app.html#/

That becomes, in the print file:

NAS****A/JPL SSD Horizons System Ephemeris app. https://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/horizons/app.html#/

I don’t know what “# **NAS****A/JPL” is about, but the document should begin, "NASA/JPL ". “NAS” is all that prints of the top two lines, on both the top and bottom halves of the page… I have tried to remove the first two lines, but “NAS” still prints. The file used to print correctly, but it started printing this garbage text during the last two weeks. I copied and pasted the text to a new file, but no joy.

I’m about to uninstall and reinstall LibreOffice, but I’ll wait for any comments besides “disk corruption” or “sunspots”.

“Print garbage” are commonly introduced by two different situations:

  • Print driver installed not corresponding to actual printer in use
This can be caused by Windows update mistakenly introducing an updated driver. It sometimes happens when the printer has new firmware available for install, but currently old firmware is installed. It also occurs if the printer is set to emulate a different printer, but in such case a spontaneous change is not likely; you would know about that setting.
    • Reinstall driver. Revert to older driver.
  • Signal chain is faulty
    • If directly connected: Cable from computer to printer is damaged.
If connected through network: some routing/handshaking settings are missing, and increased network load caused data loss.
      • Check cable. Test with a different cable. Connect to other PC port.
      • Uninstall and reinstall printer to your computer.
