Printing issue: 1.75" forced right margin, text cut off

The LibreOffice writer software displays “print preview” correctly, however every print job has a 1.75" right margin that truncates any text that would have appeared within the affected area (the margin setting in software is 1"). This issue is 100% LibreOffice related, as the printer’s own test page is successful, printing a website page via browser is fine, printing other pdf documents is fine. When saving a pdf from within Writer and printing it independently, the margins are correct and all text is printed. I would rather not have to save everything as a pdf first in order to successfully print.

The printer is an old Brother laser that has no compatibility issues in its current state, still running like a champ.

Any ideas?

Libre version 7.6.4.1 (X86_64)

Adobe Reader and Word will quietly resize the page if there is a mismatch between Letter and A4 page and paper. This can also result in unexpected prints.

Have you set your locale in Tools > Options > Language Settings > Languages > Locale setting?

Is the paper in the printer tray the same as that shown in the Brother printer driver settings?
If so, is the paper the same size as the page set in LibreOffice?

You show en-US as language, are you in the USA, that is, using Letter paper exclusively? Or are you in another American country where you might have unexpectedly bought A4 instead of Letter?

Thanks for your reply EarnestAI. Language settings are all default English-USA related. That is my location. I have messed around with A4 settings after researching and reading these forums, but none of that worked. It’s all back to 8.5 x 11 (Letter) in Libre, in the printer settings and what’s being fed into the printer. As mentioned, all margins appear correct in the software, but there must be a bug sending to the printer directly from Libre.

  1. Open the Printers Folder.

  2. Right-click on the Brother printer and left-click Printing preferences.

  3. Click on the Advanced Tab.

  4. Under Scaling, select Fit To Paper Size and select your paper size.

  5. Click Apply → OK.

  6. Attempt to print

All the printing preference settings are correct. Printed a page and the 1.75" forced right margin still exists.

Is it just one file that does this or all? If just one then try copying everything into another new document.

If all you could try closing LibreOffice, then go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features, right click LibreOffice and select Repair. Restart Windows and see if issue still exists.

If problem is still there, then see if it exists in Safe mode, click Help > Restart in safe mode > Continue in Safe Mode. If it is fixed in safe mode then consider renaming your user folder, see LibreOffice user profile - The Document Foundation Wiki
