I have been using LibreOffice for years on my Acer Laptop running Windows 10.
I just tried printing a two page document - which I have been doing for years with my duplex printer. When the dialog came up the “print on both sides” option was dimmed so that it could not be selected and the print preview window only showed the left side of the page. Then I noticed that at the top and bottom of this print preview window it said “-----0.00 inch user defined-----”. I don’t recall this appearing there. I decided to reboot and got an unfamiliar screen saying I should backup using Microsofts backup regime (I have a separate backup system going) and then update to windows 11. I backed out of this little trap and tried to print again. Then I exported the file to a .pdf and opened that in Adobe Acrobat. When I went to print this Adobe crashed - just winked out! I have restarted the printer. Same troubles. I guess I’ll need to find a local guru, but was glad to finally get on this forum!
Is Microsoft pushing users to Windows 11 all of a sudden??
I would try downloading and reinstalling the printer driver from the manufacturer’s website.
Not all of a sudden there have been many notifications on Windows 10 computers for a long time. Windows 10 is no longer updated by Microsoft, see Windows 10 support has ended on October 14, 2025 - Microsoft Support
When Windows has installed updates but the system has not been restarted then Windows is left in an uncertain state and sometimes things go weird. I find it quicker, even when I am doing something urgent, to restart Windows before carrying on working.
Thanks so much for responding, Alistair. I have been very hesitant to go to 11. Not sure my old laptop will handle it and unnerved by past “improvements” which made everything harder to handle! Then there is the probability that it will be a drain on my pocketbook! I guess I will probably have to bit the bullet soon!
Thanks again!
Dave
If your computer says it can upgrade to Windows 11 then it should be able to handle it. Remember that for a long time Windows 11 was just Windows 10 with additional superficial annoyances.
They are working hard to make everything slower but simply turning off Windows Indexing will free up a lot of resources. I use Everything to search for files instead, it only searches on names but due to that it’s fast and lightweight.
Really appreciate your support, EarnestAI!
My laptop tells me it is not up for it!
