Program crashes and wants me to close LO 7.3 on host "fritz.box"

I use Libre Office community 7.3.2.2 on a MacBook Pro (before M1) with MacOS 10.15.7. My Fritz.box is the model 7560.

Libre Office (LO) crashes quite often and i get a message that says: “Either another instance of Libre Office is accessing your personal settings or your personal settings are locked. Simultaneous access can lead to inconsistencies in your personal settings. Before continuing, you should make sure user “xyz” closes LO on host “xyzMBP.fritz.box”. Do you really want to continue?”

Where should i try to solve the problem? Is it coming from the MacOS? Can i change settings within LO? Or should i change settings of the fritz.box?
I don’t remember having set up anything that connects LO with the fritz.box. And of course there is only one computer. There are not two or more instances of LO open, only one instance.

The main issue I see are the crashes. When LibreOffice crashes, it cannot do its normal housekeeping and close things properly. When does LibreOffice crash?

When LibreOffice opens a file, it creates a lock file to indicate that someone has the file open so anybody else opening the same file can only open it read-only to prevent corruption. The lock file is deleted on closing the file. Lock files begin with .~lock. then the filename with extension and end with # they are only about 1kb in size and can be read with any text editor.

If LibreOffice is closed and nobody else is accessing the shared drive, then any LibreOffice lock files can be deleted safely.

Thanks for your answer!
LibreOffice (LO) crashes when at least one window is open for a longer time. It’s not happening every day. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t. At first everything works and behaves totally normal. Then all of a sudden the program crashes and restarts again. LO will ask me to click on “read-only” or “recreate file”. I always click on recreate. So far that always worked.

I read about the lock file and found that hidden file. This lock file disappears as soon as i close LO. So there is no lock file left to be deleted.

I just called the support team of my fritzbox. They confirmed that the message from the Libre Office must be incorrect. I have no vpn connection enabled which means it is impossible for the fritzbox to function as a host for LO.

That’s right, it quotes “xyzMBP.fritz.box” so your network name is the default, http://fritz.box your computer name is MBP and there is a user xyz which I assume is you. So Fritz box is hosting a network to which your computer is connected.

So either your user profile is locked by another process (anti virus, operating system security), or following a crash, you have a second instance of LibreOffice running. I assume you have rebooted your computer since the crash?

Yes i restarted my computer after the crash. But this is not helping. I am pretty sure that there is not a second instance of LO running. At least i have only opened it once and i don’t see a second LO icon that would indicate a second instance is working. How can i check if a second instance is running?

I assume that my user profile is locked by another process. Where can i find and check my user profile?

I assume you have given LibreOffice full disc access

Given that you are the only person accessing it, did you try just Continue in the error dialogue?

The user profile is where personal settings are, see LibreOffice user profile - The Document Foundation Wiki

Resetting your user profile by renaming the user folder when LibreOffice is closed is one way to reset your settings. After starting LibreOffice to create a fresh user folder and then closing it, you can copy back useful folders like templates, within, etc

Thanks again!

I renamed my user folder and created a new user folder. Now i will wait some time. Hopefully that will do the trick.

I still have the same problem. Two windows were open when i wanted to copy/paste an entry of a list in one of the windows. So i was copying an entry in List A and pasted it into List A while List B was open.
The problem also occurs when i copy an entry in List A and paste it into List B.

Copy/Paste seems to cause a big problem.

Which component of LibreOffice do you use? You write about “List A” and “List B”, but the tag you have chosen in this thread is “base”, the database component from LO. Ist it really a combination of 2 Base files?

It is a text document.
