Recovering document every time I open it

Every time I open a saved document, the same I open every day. Libreoffice wants to recover it from the last crash. There has not been one single crash on my computer, never. So Why is Libreoffice doing this? It is very very annoying to keep running into this issue. It happens every day. A real solution to this problem should be taken care care of years ago by Libreoffice. I have done nothing wrong here.

Can only be checked on your computer. So let’s start a guessing round:
.
My first suggestion would be you use a laptop, wich is never shutdown, you just close the lid. LibreOffice recovers unsaved documents on next day after power loss or deep sleep.

Hello Wanderer

It is both laptop and desktop. No, I never let them sleep. I always shut them down properly and save my docs before I shut down the computer.

I had the same problem. I had to keep recovering the file to print it but it never did print. I am not a tech guy. It was affecting the ink as well or something was as the commands were getting confusing. In the end I brought a new printer and I don’t get that particular problem anymore. You could try using each printer name on Libre office print. It’s a drop down and it has the names of the printer. I tried them all until one worked but this might not be your problem.

It is very annoying that there’s no solution to this since the issues has existed for years. I don’t have printing problems, only the problem that everything I start my pc and click on my daily most used document, It pops up with the recover thing. Telling me that the it is not recovered from last crash, or something similar. My LibreOffice never crashed, and my pc never crashed. I always save files b4 I shut down.

I don’t know the answer. It only happened with Libre Office files but it is ok now. I got the same problem when I tried to print the files. I also had to recover the file. I don’t know where it went to. The problem finished when I got a new printer.

I hope someone comes on here with some answers for you.

Do you allow enough time for LibreOffice to close properly (File > Exit) before shutting down the computer? If LibreOffice is still open when you shut down the computer there won’t be enough time for LO to shut down properly so it will crash.

  • If you open LibreOffice from the start menu, or other shortcut, does LibreOffice start recovery?

  • Does any other document crash, or just one in particular? If it is just one document then the issue lies with something in the document, possibly corruption, possibly a font issue or not shutting properly.

  • It might be a corrupted user profile, try opening with a temporary profile.

I do allow it to save properly. It is very strange because this only happens in Linux, any Linux distro I have used, not in Windows. In windows, I can shut any doc down without saving it first and when I open it again the next, it just opens up normally, but in Linux, almost always this issue with any doc I try to open. I have read many complaints from many people in internet fora, but I don’t think LibreOffice takes this very seriously. There are also a few suggestions about how to go about this, but none of them works.

That isn’t what I asked. Do you shut down the operating system with LibreOffice still open with open documents, saved or otherwise?

If you don’t allow LibreOffice time to save it’s own state then it will crash. It will go throughout the process of recovery when it is started next time.

I never shut down my system with LO open. As I stated earlier, I always save files properly and “files” “exit” before I shut my system/PC down.

I’m leaving this because it is too hard to get answers from you.

I suggest to rename your user profile, as described in this previously linked page, LibreOffice user profile - The Document Foundation Wiki

It is very strange because this only happens in Linux

In contrast, I and many other users have never had this problem. One suspects either finger-trouble or some peculiarity in the set-up of LibreOffice on the OP’s computer.

It would be interesting to know the answers to @EarnestAl’s three specific questions (four, actually) :

  • If you open LibreOffice from the start menu, or other shortcut, does LibreOffice start recovery?
  • Does any other document crash, or just one in particular? If it is just one document then the issue lies with something in the document, possibly corruption, possibly a font issue or not shutting properly.
  • It might be a corrupted user profile, try opening with a temporary profile.

[Added] Especially the last one about LO Version.

The same thing happened to me every time I wanted to print from Libra Office. The file disappeared and I had to go through a process of recovery. In the end I got a new printer and the problem was solved. Somehow the printer software didn’t accept Libra Office maybe?
