I want a simple Bibliography reference section at then end of my novel. I do not want the DB version. Say [1] in the text and [1] Bla, bla, bla in the last section manually titled ‘References’. Is there something built in I can use (I see nothing in the Help)? Thanks.

If I’m understanding correctly, you might be referring to Footnotes & Endnotes? If that wasn’t what you meant, or you’re wondering anything else, feel free to let me know!
You have two ways of doing it.
-
Built-in bibliography
It is always present and it is stored in your user profile. Just ignore preloaded contents and add yours.
Pros: it is easy to reference the same entry from several locations; versatility of entry contents
Cons: may be overkill for simple cases; difficulty to choose the minimal level of detail -
Endnotes
You insert an endnote where you need a reference, but there is more manual editing:- you must configure the type of numbering (by default it is
a, b, c, …i, ii, iii, …*(+) and modify character style Endnote Anchor to suppress superscript position - you must type manually the brackets around the anchor (= note number)
- reference to an already existing endnote is done with a cross-reference to capture the entry number (so that this reference remains in sync in case you add or remove entries)
- you must configure the type of numbering (by default it is
(+) Correction: by default it is lowercase Roman numbering
Interesting. I tried Endnote and got taken to what seems to be a new last page where the character ‘i’ appeared. Why i ? Why not ‘a’? The ‘i’ is a bit small in the text so I guess that will have to be changed in the Endnote Anchor style.
Apologies, I quoted wrongly the difference between footnote and endnote numbering. Anyway, you can change the numbering the way you like. It is in Tools
>Footnotes & Endnotes
The note numbering is most likely set to lowercase roman numerals. “i” is number one.
Indeed it is but I see no way in that style edit to change it to a, b, c,. And why should I suppress superscript? Thanks.
The note numbering configuration is not in paragraph style, it is in Tools
>Footnotes & Numbering
.
My suggestion to suppress superscript (in character style Endnote anchor) aimed at formatting the reference more like a bibliography i.e. “[1]” in line with text. If you prefer to keep it like a note, it is just a matter of sticking to your own graphical charter.
Thank You for that.
