Remove locked text in Writer document

I made a mistake of dragging and dropping an OO document into a Libre Office document I’m creating - now I just can’t do ANYTHING with it because it is locked and I cannot delete it or even delete the page its on. I have discovered I should have created a text box and then copy and paste the required file into it. At this point I’m thinking I have to delete the entire document and start again!
Appreciate any help thank you.

Right click on the text and select Edit section
In the dialogue, you will see it is linked to the original
You could

  1. Untick Protect to edit the contents
  2. Click the Remove button to remove the section.

BTW Don’t use Text boxes, they are drawing objects with minimal formatting capabilities. You should use frames in preference, Insert > Frame > Frame interactively, to add text outside of the main flow

Brilliant EarnestAl - it worked! As you might gather I’m new to Libra Office at this level having lost MS Word when I upgraded the OS on my Mac desktop. I have used OO for some years for minor tasks but now have to learn the quirks of a new program. Only just acquired a two button mouse so right click is still alien to me.

I’m writing a club newsletter so the front page is created using text boxes to maintain the format and I cannot place text on the same page so have to use more text boxes. Will now try frames to change that.

Instead of right-click, you can use the menu Format > Sections.
A section can be a useful way to change the number of columns within part of a page. It is self balancing so should work well in a newsletter. You can click on the Options button to access more settings for the section.

Don’t do that! Text boxes are graphic object exhibiting limited formatting capabilities. They are outside Writer text flow management. The are only intended for small “graphics” decorations, not for main topic text.

Frames provide you with full-fledged sub-documents but you’ll meet other difficulties, notably in positioning stability if you don’t master frame styles (and this is not trivial).

From this “description” it looks like your task is not formatting a single text flow, like in a novel or technical paper. You rather edit several independent articles in a single page. This is DTP (desktop publishing). Writer does not address this target. You should have a try with specialised applications. Scribus is a FOSS one. Commercial apps also exists like Quark XPress or others from Adobe.

Many thanks for your help and to others who have replied - good information I can use.
All the best - Treker71
