Restart page numbering in a Writer document

I wanted to share a way to restart page numbering, as Writer has made this easier, to solve the issue that I saw from this post: Start page numbering from specific page. This method has been tested this with version 25.8.3.2.

You open a dialog which can insert a page break, and restart the page numbering. Just inserting a page break is not sufficient yet, so the “Manual Break” feature is used, changing the page style too.

To open the dialog, click “Insert”, “More Breaks”, and “Insert Manual Break…”. In the dialog box, choose the page style (I chose “Default Page Style”), and tick the box “Change page number”. Set the number below the tick box to 1. It should look similar to the screenshot below:

The question that you linked to did not give the correct answer; it does not work and never will. Offset is not to be used for changing page numbering, it will end in frustration.

Better to see the answer to the question linked from that question by oweng, How can I use Roman page numbers for first pages and Arabic page numbers for the rest? - #5 by oweng which goes into detail on how to prepare for using the dialogue that you have shown and then using it.

I’ve changed the wording to be clearer. I included that link to provide some context, and because it is currently locked. I guess it wasn’t necessary, as search engines should pick up the keywords in the title.

In my case, it seems to be the simplest way to accomplish this, as the page styles were already available by default.
