Rfc: big red cursor

The cursor is mad - it has the trend to be invisible.
Especially at the beginning of the line or inside a tables left.
There is a really very wellknown and famous text editor, that I use since >20 years - called jEdit - which does this exceptional good.
BTW - I had to use a predifined tag: Bad: There is no tag “all applications”

You can enter more than one tag if you want. When you have problems with the cursor, it really helps us help you if you tell us what version of LibreOffice you use and what OS. Please edit your first post to add that information.

I thought that the predefined common tag was good enough…?

If you have Windows 10 or 11 in Start menu > Settings > Bluetooth& devices > Additional mouse settings > Pointer Options you can

  • untick Hide pointer while typing and/or
  • tick Show location of pointer when I press CTRL key

If you don’t have Windows then look to the settings in your OS.

[Edit]
Ubuntu: Libreoffice writer: Typing cursor (caret, not the mouse pointer) appearance - Ask Ubuntu

Workaround: Hold down shift and press right Arrow two or three times, it will select two or three letters, enough to stand out.

You are all right - wrote like an amateur, but was in a hurry.
I am using Linux (Debian, with XFCE4), LO 7.4.7.2

I am NOT talking about the mouse-pointer (often named cursor, which is not the really the right word for it), I am talking about the text-cursor, which is the pointer between two characters, in texteditors, development editors and the like.
In nearly ALL Linux apps, it is NOT configurable and that thin, that I cannot find it in many situations. This seems to be a general lack of features in the Linux GUIs (but dont know all).
Additionally, for Libreoffice (Writer, Impress), if a table cell has no borders, the cursor in an empty cell is exactly on the position with the left frameborder (if it has a printable one or not).
A FAT text-cursor, probably sizable and colourable, would solve this problem.
JEdit has a “fat” cursor, colored red (I thing doubled width).
TEA, another texteditor, has a sizable cursor (one can specify “size”, which means thickness).
So this looks like a lack of features in LO, because others know about its worth and implemented it.

Manfred

If this is changed I expect a storm of “Where can U switch this distracting red line off again” (I remember introducing dark mode …)

Or it is just following guidelines and having a common apparel of software on your desktop environment. You noted yourself:
