Sbase doesn't run on my 64bit system yet Swriter and Calc does.?

I’m using LIbreoffice downloaded a few months go on Win7 64bit yet it says it needs a 64 bit system when I try to launch Sbase.exe yet Swriter and Calc work fine. ???

And why are they called Sbase and Swriter instead of Database and Writer?

Maybe it tells you need a 64-bit Java ?
The default database HSQLDB is written in Java ?

Usually they are not, but I can find this files also on my system: In the additional “portable” LibreOffice I downloaded at PortableApps. May be a name left in their build-scripts from the time where all this was called Staroffice (even before OpenOffice).

As I’m using Win7 64bit I thought whatever Java was installed would be 64 bit. Where do I get this 64 bit Java that is compatible with Base?

Install the correct JRE

When you go to Java.com you can’t even find a download link. When I finally found it it doesn’t work. It just says it failed. No reason why. It said its compatible with Win7 64bit. Not so I guess. Their website is hopeless. I’ll just use an old version in Microsoft Office. That might work. Getting techies to write any sort of logical help seems to be an exercise in total and complete futility. Maybe its the way most of them think. Who knows? I wish I had their tech mind though so I didn’t need to ask for help.

Did you follow the link given by @Hrbrgr ? If you follow it, read the explanation and follow links on how to download it out will take you to a java download page. It is not technical, just following links.

Huh?

and I only asked what the precise message is. On my desk I work with a 32bit LibreOffice, and 32bit java (not fom Oracle) but 64 Win10. Java has to fit the application. 64bit-Windows can execute 32bit and 64bit Software - your ancient Win7 may even support 16bit.
.
As you may use a portable app you may need to put your java in the right location. Portable apps has some informations on their side. I will not give the link, as I will get the german version…

Just the right way to be motivated to help you.
As I’m obviously not qualified: Ask your admin.

Thank you Wanderer for your suggestions. Though I really cannot understand why Java has to be so difficult though I’ve never had issues before. You’d think LibreOffice would make it work properly without us jumping through Java hoops. Its not much to ask as everyone else seems to be able to deal with Java in 32 or 64 bit just fine. Yet we give LibreOffice a pass? I don’t think so. If they can’t deal with this I wonder what other surprises await me later they can’t bother to fix? This is how people think when they try something new. They try a little and if it doesn’t make sense they just shelve it and try something else. Everyone loses when things are not addressed.

Actually funny: “seems” is the right word here.

You obviously leave the reading on this problems to “techies”. Believe me (or not) there are lurking a lot of this problems until people, who assume reading manuals or testing before using is a waste of time, stumble over them.
I see some of this as my workplace uses 32bit LibreOffice on 64-bit Windows, but will not try to explain further stuff you will not get because of techies general inability to give “logical help”.

Hey, the problem is LO hasn’t fixed this. And Java can’t seem to make their website work properly. So the combination results in a dead end.

On this page that is supposed to help there is nothing for Win7. That’s probably the issue. So does anyone know what Win7 people do with Java and LO Base? I’m noticing more and more software is just ignoring Win7 even though a significant number of computer users still choose to use it (because they prefer it).

So I tried first opening Calc (which always works fine) then Base. It worked!

Not java, but Oracle. You may try https://openjdk.org/
or Downloads for Amazon Corretto 8 - Amazon Corretto

I use currently OpenJDK, and have used Coretto also. For Win 10 I’d recommend OpenJDK, for Win7 I recommend upgrading to Win10 with OpenShell, but that’s another piece of cake …

It is not Base, wich needs Java, but HSQLDB, the Report-Generator and obviously you can not use jdbc-connectors. Other pieces just work - as they are not written in java.
