how to search a large dropdown list in libreoffice calc by typing all or partial text in the dropdown box and not having to scroll the entire list to find??

Validity of Cell Contents?

Now there are two options.

1. Just spend time on the request.

Data Validation, cell range needs full text search

Data validity - cell range does not appear to have full text search. This hampers the functionality to the point of being unusable. Requires being able to recall exact word ordering. If that were the case, generally wouldn’t need cell range lists to begin with.

2. Take a little time and go ahead.

It’s important to seek something better, but now let’s move forward with a little effort.

FILTER? SORT? Is it a formula like IF(<cell with dropbox>="";<full list>;IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH(<cell with dropbox>;<full list>));<full list>;"")) and checkbox Sort entries ascending won’t give you similar results?

Works for me with listboxes (form controls) with up to 32768 (2^15) entries filled with database data.

However, the trivial pivot to adapt this to a Q&A forum is, predictably: Q: “How do I get full-text autocomplete within cell validation in LO Calc?” A: Libreoffice Calc does not currently support this functionality.
